3 Star Players Suffer Identical Injuries & Undergo Surgery on the Same Day

New York Mets infielder Francisco Lindor throws the ball during 2025 game.

MLB spring training barely got rolling before three cornerstone bats suffered the same fate: a hamate injury.

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday, and Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll all wound up dealing with hamate fractures within the same news cycle, turning Wednesday into a league-wide “what is happening?” moment.

Hamate injuries are common, the timing wasn’t

Lindor is headed for surgery on a hamate fracture that immediately puts Opening Day in jeopardy, even if the club is holding off on officially ruling him out.

Holliday’s fractured hamate dates back to Feb. 6 in live batting practice, but the Orioles confirmed he’ll open the season on the injured list, with recovery measured in weeks.

Carroll suffered his broken hamate during batting practice Feb. 10 and is also going the surgery route, with an early-season IL stint looking likely. He'll also miss the World Baseball Classic for Team USA.
