MLB Free Agency: White Sox Sign Free Agent To Be Their New Closer
The Chicago White Sox have brought in a stopgap closer to take them through their rebuild, signing free agent reliever Seranthony Domínguez to a two-year, $20 million contract.
Right-handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez and the Chicago White Sox are in agreement on a two-year, $20 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Dominguez, 31, is expected to close for the White Sox, who use the money saved in the Luis Robert Jr. deal to continue adding this winter.

He posted a 3.16 ERA across 67 appearances in 2025 with 79 Ks in 62.2 innings split between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. Pale Hose general manager Chris Getz used the salary space freed up after trading Luis Robert Jr. earlier this week, to add Domínguez.
Some may wonder why a team that isn't expected to win much in the coming couple of seasons would want to spend money on a closer. But the fact is, losing games late can be demoralizing for a young team trying to find its way in the majors. Having a decent arm in the back of the bullpen can help bolster team confidence.
Now, Dominguez hasn't exactly been a closer type in the big leagues, with 40 saves total over seven seasons. But he has a big fastball, and has seen plenty of high-leverage situations. He's going into his age-31 season.
