Breaking MLB Trade: New York Mets Deal Jeff McNeil To West Coast
Jeff McNeil's days as a New York Met were numbered even before they acquired second baseman Marcus Semien in a big trade earlier this offseason. But after that deal, it was just a matter of time. Today, the Mets have dealt McNeil to the Athletics for a minor leaguer.
The New York Mets will receive a rookie-ball arm in the deal that sends Jeff McNeil to the A's, sources tell ESPN. The Mets also will be sending cash to help cover McNeil's $15.75 million salary, plus the $2 million buyout on a club option for next year.

It will be rookie-ball pitcher Yordan Rodriguez that comes back to the Mets in return, per insider Jeff Passan. New York will also be sending the A's $5.75M to help them get McNeil's $15.75M salary down to the $10M mark, much more palatable for the small-market franchise.
The second baseman/outfielder spent his entire eight-year career in Queens, won a batting title in 2022, and had two All-Star nods (2019 & '22).

Overall, McNeil has a career .284 average, .351 on-base pct., and .779 OPS. He batted over .300 in four of his first five seasons in New York, including .326 for the batting crown in 2022.
The 33-year-old now heads to Sacramento, where he'll take over at second base, and provide a veteran presence in the young, but impressive A's lineup.
In 2025, McNeil hit .243 with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs. He should be ready for spring training after undergoing thoracic outlet surgery last month.
