MLB Rumors: Orioles Interested In 3 Big Free Agent Names
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Baltimore has shown interest in power bat Kyle Schwarber as well as frontline starters Framber Valdez and top Japanese arm Tatsuya Imai.
It’s a bold approach from a franchise known more for conservative spending than blockbuster signings, especially after years of rebuilding and ownership changes.
With Dylan Cease now off the board after signing with the Toronto Blue Jays, the pressure increases for Baltimore to act quickly.

Schwarber, Valdez & Imai On Baltimore’s Radar
Schwarber represents the type of elite power bat the Orioles have rarely pursued, fresh off a season that saw him crush 56 home runs with a .928 OPS and finish as the NL MVP runner-up.
He would immediately slot in as Baltimore’s everyday DH, though his addition would force tough decisions regarding Ryan Mountcastle and Samuel Basallo’s position path. Meanwhile, Valdez offers true No. 1–starter experience, and Mike Elias knows him well from their shared days in the Houston Astros system.
Elias, my 2026 wishlist is simple:

Framber Valdez to sink liners into the Camden dirt 🤝 Robert Suarez to make 101 look like 201 and break hitters’ souls in the 9th.
Grounders + gas = AL East tears.

Imai brings upside as a younger option with dominant numbers in Japan, though projecting success from NPB to MLB always carries risk.
Orioles Preparing To Spend Big
The Orioles have already taken an aggressive early step by acquiring Taylor Ward, adding premium power after trading away pitching depth in Grayson Rodriguez.
With mounting expectations to return to contention in 2026, ownership and Elias appear ready to back up their words with real spending.
