MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Trade Destinations for Ketel Marte

The Arizona Diamondbacks are at a tipping point with All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte. The 32-year-old multi-time Silver Slugger winner will reach the vaunted "10-and-5" status this coming season:
10 years of service time and 5 consecutive years with the same team, which brings on an automatic no-trade clause. So if they were even going to think of trading him, it's essentially now or never.

Insider Ken Rosenthal has confirmed on the Foul Territory podcast that a possible Marte trade is really a thing this winter:

It's definitely a factor, and it's definitely a real name (that's out there)... Is it something that is being discussed? Absolutely it is being discussed...

Ketel Marte is one of the best second baseman in baseball, there's no question about that… He's signed for several more years at a rate where, if he's productive, it is still quite reasonable... (But) the Diamondbacks have so many holes, and if they trade him, they could maybe fill those holes.

In particular, the D-Backs have needs in the rotation. They've lost two of their long-time starters, Merrill Kelly (traded at the 2025 deadline), and Zac Gallen, who will be leaving in free agency. Most of all, ace Corbin Burnes is out until at least mid-season after Tommy John surgery.

"They have this pitching need... A trade of Marte is at least something that you would explore if you're the Diamondbacks. Do they get everything they want for him? That, I'm not sure of."

Marte had his second straight All-Star season (third overall), after blasting 28 homers with a .283 batting mark, along with an .893 OPS.

Three teams are the forefront of potential landing spots if Marte is dealt, according to reports:

Boston Red Sox

Although Ceddanne Rafaela can play some second base (24 games this season), clearly his best position is center field, where he won a Gold Glove in 2025. Second base was a mixed bag for Boston this season, plus the team is desperate for another impact bat in the lineup. All of this makes Marte a great fit for the Red Sox.

Seattle Mariners

Second base is also a spot where the M's could use an upgrade, and with the team coming so close to making the World Series this season, adding another power bat like Marte could push them over the top. In addition, there already exists a strong working relationship between the two teams after the Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez trades this season. A move to Seattle would also mark a reunion for Marte, who began his career there.

New York Mets

If Pete Alonso leaves in free agency, the Mets will be strapped for some big-time offense in their lineup. And even though Brett Baty finally showed some promise in his time at second base in 2025, Marte would be an impact bat that Baty could not match. They do have the prospect capital to make a deal work. Additionally, they're putting Kodai Senga on the trade market, and with the Snakes' need on the mound, perhaps there's a match here.
