MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers Land Red Sox Star Jarren Duran in Proposed Trade
Jarren Duran's name was on the rumor mill for most of the 2025 season, but in the end, the Boston Red Sox held on to the 2024 All-Star outfielder. That does not mean, however, that a trade isn't a very real possibility this offseason.
The Red Sox' outfield of the future is seen by most observers to consist of Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu. That leaves Duran, who took a step back in '25, as the odd man out. But he would still bring back a huge haul for Boston.
Meanwhile, across the country, the Los Angeles Dodgers, despite another World Series victory, would like to upgrade the offensive impact out of their outfield, one of the very few spots that they could stand to improve to keep their championship run going.
Dodgers could send four top prospects to Red Sox for Jarren Duran in proposal
With that, Bailey Bassett of Clutch Points has proposed a deal that would get Duran in Dodger Blue, and give the Red Sox a nice return. His trade idea looks like this:
Dodgers receive:
- Jarren Duran
Red Sox receive:
- Zhyir Hope, OF (Dodgers' No. 2 prospect)
- Eduardo Quintero, OF (No. 3 prospect)
- Ching-Hsien Ko, OF (Dodgers No. 10)
- Patrick Copen, RHP (Dodgers No. 17)
The Dodgers get to cull from their deep farm system, which boasts seven of the Top 100 prospects in baseball, in order to feed the beast at the top level for an attempted third straight World Series title.
Duran, despite a dip this year, still led the league in triples, while setting a career-high in RBIs with 84. He launched 16 dingers and stole 24 bases. His .774 OPS was his lowest in three years, but it was still 14% better than the average major leaguer.
Why would the Red Sox do this proposed deal for all of those elite outfield prospects plus an intriguing 6-foot-6 pitching prospect? Didn't we just say above that their outfield of the future is already set? True, but that would be their immediate future OF — as in 2026 and 2027. The three outfield prospects they'd be receiving in this hypothetical deal are mostly two to three years away, at least. They could also be used as top prospect chips in another trade for the BoSox to add some other need elsewhere around the lineup.
As Bassett concludes in his final pitch for the World Champs to make this deal, "The Dodgers are well poised to make a run for a three-peat, and Duran would help ensure they don't regress. The team is deep and has assets to spare, so making a trade for Duran would make tons of sense. Don't be surprised if the rich get richer this offseason."
