MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Big Bats Who Could Still Be Traded This Offseason

Corey Seager, Texas Rangers shortstop

The New York Mets and Texas Rangers shook up the baseball offseason with the blockbuster trade of Marcus Semien for Brandon Nimmo. But are there any other big name bats who could potentially be dealt this winter?

According to former MLB GM Jim Bowden, speaking on the Foul Territory podcast, there are three who he's already rumors about:

I think big names will get moved. There's a lot of very creative GMs out there right now... The Yankees have touched base with Ketel Marte in Arizona and Corey Seager in Texas... I think that Teoscar Hernandez in LA could get traded if (the LA Dodgers) were able to sign, say, (free agent) Kyle Tucker.

Let's take these one at a time.

Ketel Marte trade rumors are still out there

The Marte rumors have been out there, on and off, since the regular season. Coming off his second straight Silver Slugger Award and his third All-Star season, his value will never be higher. Another insider, Ken Rosenthal, posited that Marte could indeed be traded, and we looked at three potential landing spots

The Texas Rangers could move on from Corey Seager

Seager still has six seasons to run on his massive 10-year, $325 million deal. At $31.5M per year, that's a lot of money the Rangers still owe the slugging shortstop. He's putting up tremendous numbers for Texas, with an .872 OPS over his four years there, but he's usually unavailable for big chunks of the season due to injury, and "they'll move the contract if they can. It's a huge contract, he's 32 years old (as of next season), and they have some financial issues right now."

Would the Dodgers trade 2-time World Series champ Teoscar Hernandez?

Hernandez has been a big part of the Dodgers' back-to-back championships. In his two seasons there, he's averaged 29 homers and 94 RBIs per year, with an overall .793 OPS (120 OPS+). He's also been a key contributor in their playoff runs, with 25 RBIs in 33 total games over the two years.

But hey, Kyle Tucker is Kyle Tucker. The top free agent on the market is an elite player, with a rare blend of power, batting average, speed, and strong defense in right field. His 4.6 WAR far outdistanced Teo's 1.5 WAR in 2025.
