MLB Rumors: Top 3 Landing Spots For Star Closer Edwin Diaz

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz reacts during 2025 game.

Edwin Diaz landing spots will headline the reliever market after his opt-out, and his 2025 rebound puts him in line for a premium multi-year deal.

This past season, the 31-year-old posted an elite 1.63 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 98 strikeouts across 66.1 innings. In 62 games, he also converted 28 saves.

He looked like a top-tier stopper again with elite swing-and-miss and command in save situations. The teams below check the boxes of closer need, and budget room to pay for a ninth-inning finisher.

New York Mets

The New York Mets are a familiar fit, and know how Diaz plays under New York lights. Their internal options are thin for a full season of closing, and the roster is still built to win if late leads are protected.

A market-range pact around four years with a strong AAV keeps the door shut in the ninth and avoids rolling the dice on a committee.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers need a right-handed hammer to stabilize the last three outs. Even with regular-season depth, they have cycled through roles and could use a set-and-forget closer for another title push.

Diaz’s strikeout profile fits their run prevention model, and the contract structure is workable given their payroll flexibility. Slotting him at the back lets everyone else slide into better fit leverage lanes.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have the lineup and rotation to chase a pennant but a true anchor in the ninth would raise the floor in tight games.

Diaz’s track record against top offenses and his ability to miss bats in traffic suits postseason baseball. The Braves can pair him with their current high-leverage arms and turn late innings into shorter games.
