Garcia slipped to 19 homers this past season with a .227 average and .665 OPS. He was a below-average hitter with an OPS+ of 93.
The Cuban slugger had been DFA'd twice in his career before finally breaking through with the Rangers big-time in 2021 with 31 home runs and 90 RBIs along with 16 stolen bases. After raking for another 27 homers, 101 RBIs and 25 SBs in 2022, he followed that up with his second All-Star season in '23 with 39 homers, a Gold Glove in the outfield, and a sensational playoff run.
In that 2023 postseason, Garcia was a key factor in helping lead the Rangers to the World Series title, winning the ALCS MVP, while batting .308 with a 1.108 OPS in the playoffs, along with eight homers and 22 RBIs in 15 games.
Garcia slumped to a .224 average and a below league-average 98 OPS+ in 2024, though he still managed to hit 25 homers. This past season, his production dipped even further.
Nevertheless, with a resume of two All-Star nods and a postseason series MVP, he will no doubt find some suitors in free agency who hope to unlock that slugging potential once again.
