Veteran Diamondbacks Pitcher Elects Free Agency After Solid Season

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Nabil Crismatt walks off the field during 2025 game.

After quietly becoming one of the Arizona Diamondbacks most dependable arms down the stretch, Nabil Crismatt has officially elected free agency.

The veteran right-hander’s transaction log confirms his decision following a productive yet brief stint in the desert, marking the eighth time in his career he’s opted for the open market.

Diamondbacks’ Nabil Crismatt Elects Free Agency After Productive 2025 Stint

Crismatt, 30, rejoined Arizona on August 9 amid a wave of pitching injuries that left the rotation depleted following Merrill Kelly’s trade and Anthony DeSclafani’s thumb injury

Despite being used mostly as a reliever throughout his MLB career, Crismatt thrived as a fill-in starter, delivering a 3.71 ERA across 34 innings with 25 strikeouts and a solid 44.3% ground-ball rate. His five starts included a stretch in which he posted a 2.61 ERA through 31 innings, showcasing impressive command and a changeup-heavy style that baffled hitters.

Originally debuting with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2020, Crismatt’s journeyman career has seen him pitch for the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and now twice for the Diamondbacks

While his DFA late in the year stemmed from roster logistics rather than performance, a reunion in 2026 remains a realistic possibility, especially for a Diamondbacks club still facing rotation uncertainty heading into next season.
