Guardians Pitcher Undergoes Tommy John Surgery After Impressive Rookie Season

The Cleveland Guardians are facing a tough start to their offseason as two key players are headed for surgery.

Right-hander Nic Enright will undergo Tommy John surgery in the coming weeks and will miss the entire 2026 season, while designated hitter David Fry recently underwent nasal surgery to repair a fractured nose and deviated septum following a late-September injury.

For Enright, the setback marks another challenging chapter in his inspiring career.

The 28-year-old reliever, who overcame Hodgkin’s Lymphoma just two years ago, made his MLB debut in 2025 and quickly became one of Cleveland’s most reliable bullpen arms. In 31 innings, he posted a stellar 2.03 ERA with 30 strikeouts, often filling high-leverage roles late in the season.

His Tommy John procedure will sideline him until at least 2027, leaving the Guardians searching for bullpen depth this winter.

As for Fry, his recovery journey continues after a difficult year. The versatile slugger was limited to 66 games in 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and was struck in the face by a 99-mph fastball from Tarik Skubal in September.

After undergoing Nasal Septoplasty surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Fry is expected to make a full recovery in time for Spring Training 2026. Manager Stephen Vogt expressed confidence that a healthy Fry will again be a key offensive piece after hitting 14 home runs with a .263 average just one season earlier.
