Breaking: Philadelphia Phillies Make Big Announcement on Manager Rob Thomson

Rob Thomson, Phillies manager

The Philadelphia Phillies had another disappointing finish to their playoff run this season after a very strong regular season. Changes will be coming and some big free agent decisions must be made. But one change that won't be made is at manager. The team has announced that Rob Thomson will be back in 2026.

According to insider Bob Nightengale, the Phillies will hold a year-end news conference this week and Thomson will indeed be part of it. He does say that coaching changes are likely, however.

Thomson has led the Phillies to a series of strong regular seasons, with  90, 95 and 96 wins from 2023 through this year. But their playoff success has gone in the opposite direction, from a World Series appearance in 2022, to an NLCS loss in '23, to an NLDS defeat in '24 and '25.

Overall, Thomson has a 346-251 record with a .580 winning percentage over his four seasons as skipper. He's well-liked by the players (except, perhaps, Nick Castellanos). His contract runs through the 2026 season, and they'll be running it back with him once again.
