Versatile Infielder Elects Free Agency After Three Seasons With Braves

The Atlanta Braves’ post-2025 roster reset claimed a familiar glue guy. Luke Williams has elected free agency after being outrighted off Atlanta’s 40-man roster.

Williams, 28, spent parts of three seasons with the Braves (2023-25), carving out a niche as the 26th man: a pinch-runner, late-inning defensive replacement, and the occasional position-player pitcher in blowouts.

Offensively, he never gained traction this year, slashing .129/.176/.194 over 34 plate appearances, but his value came from versatility and speed in tactical spots.

Atlanta outrighted Jarred Kelenic, Alexis Díaz, Dane Dunning, Sandy León, and Williams to clear 40-man space ahead of a wave of activations from the 60-day IL. Kelenic, Díaz, Dunning, and Williams have already elected free agency.

Williams will hit the market as a defense/speed/versatility add who can cover multiple spots, run, and handle late-game assignments.

Over his three seasons in Atlanta, the 29-year-old slashed .151/.213/.209, with zero home runs, nine RBIs, and 14 runs scored across 80 games played.

The bat hasn’t followed, but clubs seeking a flexible 26th man or up-and-down utility piece could see value on a minors deal with a spring invite.
