Blue Jays Make Decision on Bo Bichette of ALCS

Bo Bichette, Blue Jays shortstop

The Toronto Blue Jays have released their official roster for the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners ahead of Game 1 Sunday night. And as expected, after a baserunning tweak on Saturday, the team's leading hitter Bo Bichette has been left off the roster.

It's a tough break for the Jays, who will take on a tough Mariners pitching staff (though a thoroughly taxed one after their 15-inning marathon to clinch the ALDS on Friday night).

Bichette led the team with a .311 average during the regular-season, and led the entire major leagues in hits with 181 until the final days of the season, hasn't played since early September due to a sprained knee.

He tried to run the bases for the first time since then on Saturday during a workout at Rogers Centre in Toronto, but the results were not good:

Bichette can be seen pulling up after rounding second base, and looking frustrated.

On the pitching side for the Jays, some expected changes there, as veteran starters Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt have been added to the roster, with relievers Justin Bruihl and Tommy Nance being removed. Bassitt will be used in relief, per manager John Schneider.

ALCS Game 1 features Kevin Gausman on the mound for Toronto, facing Bryce Miller for Seattle. The M's are forced to go with their 5th starter for the opening game after top arms Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo and George Kirby all pitched in that Friday Game 5 marathon.
