MLB Rumors: Orioles Eyeing Surprising Name To Be Their Next Manager

Albert Pujols’ path to an MLB dugout just got more interesting.

While the Albert Pujols manager talk has centered on the Los Angeles Angels, multiple reports say the Baltimore Orioles are preparing to interview him as well.

Baltimore dismissed Brandon Hyde in May after a 15–28 start and finished under interim Tony Mansolino, and league chatter now connects Pujols to a young core that could benefit from his credibility and player-development chops.

Why the fit makes sense, and what could decide it

There are real ties in Baltimore.

Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias scouted for the St. Louis Cardinals during Pujols’ prime, and Pujols remains close with former teammate Matt Holliday, whose son Jackson Holliday is a franchise pillar. For the Angels, familiarity also matters given Pujols’ decade in Anaheim and a reported positive meeting with general manager Perry Minasian.

Pujols is slated to manage the Dominican Republic in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, yet an MLB job would take precedence, which shows how close he is to making the jump. With eight managerial openings across the league, Pujols may have to choose if multiple offers come in.

Baltimore offers a stocked pipeline and payroll room to maneuver after a disappointing 2025, while the Angels present organizational familiarity and a mandate to rebrand the clubhouse culture.

As the offseason continues, seeing where Pujols lands will be a fascinating storyline to watch.
