Texas Rangers Sign Two Veteran Free Agent Players

Seattle Mariners infielder Donovan Solano runs the bases during 2025 game.

The Texas Rangers are patching holes in their roster with two veteran additions.

The Rangers have signed infielder Donovan Solano and right-hander Cal Quantrill to minor league contracts. Both recently hit the market after being released - Solano by the Seattle Mariners and Quantrill by the Atlanta Braves.

Rangers Sign Solano and Quantrill for Depth

Solano, 37, provides a steady veteran presence for an infield that has been ravaged by injuries. With Marcus Semien and Corey Seager sidelined and Jake Burger battling recurring injuries, Solano could become a valuable stopgap if another starter goes down.

While his production dipped this year in Seattle, slashing .252/.295/.344 in 69 games, Solano’s track record includes a Silver Slugger Award and consistent contact hitting across multiple seasons.

Quantrill, meanwhile, offers an insurance policy for a rotation that has also been hit hard. Injuries to Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Gray, and Tyler Mahle have left the Rangers thin behind Jacob deGrom, Merrill Kelly, Jack Leiter, and Patrick Corbin.

While Quantrill has struggled this season (posting an ERA north of 6.00 between Miami and Atlanta), his past success in Cleveland shows he can still eat innings when stretched out.

Both Solano and Quantrill are ineligible for the postseason, but their presence could help stabilize Texas as they battle for an AL Wild Card spot.
