MLB Rumors: Mets Linked To Three Players in Free Agency

New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham celebrates during 2025 game.

The New York Mets have managed to stay in the playoff hunt despite glaring issues in center field.

With Cedric Mullins slumping and Jose Siri still finding his legs after a long injury absence, Fansided’s Jake Elman believes New York can’t afford to stand pat this winter. He linked the Mets to three potential free-agent targets: Trent Grisham, Harrison Bader, and Rob Refsnyder.

Grisham, Bader Headline Targets

Grisham is in the middle of a career year with the New York Yankees, blasting 30 home runs while providing Gold Glove-caliber defense in center. Elman sees him as the most logical fit, allowing Brandon Nimmo to stay in left and Juan Soto to avoid a risky move to center.

Bader, currently thriving with the Philadelphia Phillies, is another intriguing option. His mix of strong defense and a resurgent bat could make him a short-term solution on a one-year deal.

Refsnyder a Depth Option

For a more affordable piece, Elman mentioned Boston Red Sox veteran Rob Refsnyder. While not an everyday star, the 34-year-old has been productive in limited duty and could provide steady at-bats while giving the Mets flexibility to pursue bigger-ticket names or even explore international options like Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami.
