MLB Rumors: Legendary Name Picking Up Steam To Be Angels Next Manager
With Ron Washington sidelined after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery, ESPN’s Buster Olney and The New York Post’s Jon Heyman have both suggested that the Hall of Fame-bound slugger could be an option if the Angels decide to move in a new direction for 2026.
Albert Pujols could be hired as the Los Angeles Angels' new manager, per @Elreydelaradio.

Pujols, who spent a decade playing in Anaheim before retiring in 2022, has been open about his desire to manage in Major League Baseball. He’s already gained experience in the Dominican Winter League and is set to lead the Dominican Republic in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
While his tenure with the Angels ended on rocky terms when he was released in 2021, Pujols has maintained close ties with the organization through his personal services contract.
Washington’s Future and Moreno’s Preference for Big Names
Washington, 73, has publicly stated his intention to return in 2026, but the Angels may be hesitant to hand the reins back to the league’s oldest manager following his health scare. If owner Arte Moreno opts for a new face, history suggests he’ll want a name that generates headlines.
Pujols, with his superstar pedigree and organizational connection, fits that mold.
The funniest way for Arte Moreno to get back at Albert Pujols for robbing him of $240 million is to make Pujols spend his retirement watching the current Angels 162 times a year https://t.co/DOVudSm6WQ

Some around the league believe Moreno could instead lean toward bringing back Mike Scioscia, who managed the Angels for 19 years, rather than hiring an unproven candidate.
