MLB Rumors: Kyle Tucker Predicted To Sign With NL Team In Free Agency

The Los Angeles Dodgers may be on the verge of adding yet another superstar.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, rival executives believe the Dodgers will sign Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker this winter, making him the highest-paid player of the upcoming free-agent class. Despite a rocky second half in Chicago, Tucker is still expected to command a contract north of $600 million.

For the Cubs, this scenario would be a gut punch. Chicago gave up All-Star Isaac Paredes and top-100 prospect Cam Smith to land Tucker in a blockbuster trade, hoping he’d be the missing piece in their World Series push.

Letting him walk after one season, especially without a championship, would mark a major setback for Jed Hoyer’s front office. Tucker has enjoyed his time in Chicago and the team would like him back, but ownership has historically avoided massive bidding wars, something that plays right into the Dodgers’ hands.

Even with his post-All-Star break struggles (a .242 average with five homers and 17 RBI), Tucker’s overall numbers remain strong: a .270/.381/.472 slash line, 22 home runs, 73 RBI, and elite baserunning and defense.

At just 28 years old with four All-Star nods, a Gold Glove, and a World Series ring already on his résumé, he’s precisely the type of player Los Angeles loves to lock up long-term. Adding Tucker to a lineup that already boasts Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith would only strengthen the Dodgers’ status as MLB’s modern juggernaut.
