Los Angeles Dodgers DFA Right-Handed Pitcher

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Matt Sauer pitches during 2025 game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster took another hit this weekend as catcher Dalton Rushing was placed on the 10-day injured list with a deep bone bruise in his shin.

To cover the loss, the Dodgers promoted Chuckie Robinson from Triple-A Oklahoma City, a move that required designating right-hander Matt Sauer for assignment. The shuffle comes while Will Smith remains limited by a bone bruise in his right hand, leaving the Dodgers’ catching group stretched thin heading into a crucial stretch.

Dodgers DFA Matt Sauer as Injuries Hit Catching Depth

Sauer, 26, has spent most of the year at Triple-A, where he posted a 5.86 ERA across 83 innings. In limited MLB action with Los Angeles, he went 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA over 10 appearances. Despite some decent peripherals, his struggles and multiple options earlier this year made him the odd man out.

With Sauer on waivers, the Dodgers risk losing him, though given his performance, he may clear and stay in the organization as depth.

Behind the plate, the Dodgers are now leaning on Ben Rortvedt as their starter while Robinson steps in as the backup. Offensively, that duo brings little to the table, as Rortvedt is hitting under .100 this season, while Robinson’s career batting line sits at .132.
