Senga will head to Triple-A Syracuse after posting an 8.31 ERA over his last two starts, and a 5.70 ERA over his last five starts. This, after an incredible start to the season that saw him sitting on a 1.39 ERA at the All-Star Break.
Since then, after returning from a hamstring injury, his mechanics are way off, and he's allowed four or more runs in half of his eight starts, and will try to right the ship at AAA. The Mets can't afford for him to work on things at the major league level, as they're in a dogfight to earn a playoff berth.
"There’s definitely some frustration," Senga said after his last pummeling against the Miami Marlins on Aug. 31. "I’ve never experienced something like this for this extended period of time. There’s some confusion why I’m not able to perform, but at the same time, when I’m able to prepare well and able to do what I’m capable of out there, I know that I’m able to put up a good performance."
Senga arrived from Japan in the winter of 2022-23, and signed a five-year deal with the Mets for $75 million.
Overall, he's been excellent, with a 3.00 ERA in 285 innings across the three seasons, with 10.1 K/9. But he definitely needs to get right if the Mets are going to make it to October.
