Blue Jays Receive Disappointing News on Bo Bichette
The dreaded words "second opinion" are never something a team wants to hear about an injured player. Usually, the parties want a second opinion because they just didn't like the first one. Was that the case with Toronto Blue Jays' star shortstop Bo Bichette?
According to insider Jon Morosi, it appears that the Jays have received one of the rare "good news" second opinions in sports injuries—no structural damage:
Source: 2nd opinion on Bo Bichette’s left knee sprain has confirmed that the injury is (a) short-term and (b) expected to improve with rest and rehabilitation.

It’s still possible that Bichette returns in time for the postseason; he last played on Sept. 6.@MLBNetwork
Morosi's sources tell him that the second opinion on Bichette’s left knee sprain "has confirmed that the injury is (a) short-term and (b) expected to improve with rest and rehabilitation."
He adds that it's "possible" that the pending free agent returns in time for the postseason, which doesn't sound quite as promising. Jays fans would like to be more assured than that, but they'll take the good news that the sprain isn't a long-term thing and doesn't need surgery.
Just yesterday, however, teammate Isiah Kiner-Falefa made a more ominous statement about when Bichette might return:
IKF on Deep Left Field podcast on Bo Bichette: “We’re going to try and get the job done for him, give him a chance to get healthy and hopefully we’re playing long enough where he can try and make a comeback late in the postseason. But at the same time, you know, next man up.”

"Hopefully, we’re playing long enough where he can try and make a comeback late in the postseason." Late in the postseason? Yikes.
Manager John Schneider went on to confirm that Bichette will be out for the rest of the regular season.
Meanwhile, surprisingly, the Blue Jays haven't been missing Bichette's bat since his last game on Sept. 6th, as they've gone 6-2 since then, and have continued to get some big hits in crucial spots from all up and down the lineup. Yes, depth is a nice thing to have.
Bichette, despite missing the last 10 days, still leads the major leagues in hits, with 181, and doubles, with 44. He's batting .311 with an .840 OPS, with 18 homers and 94 RBIs. He'll be a free agent after the season, and is in for a huge payday after his big comeback season.
Now, the team is just hoping he'll be able to "come back" before the end of the current campaign.
