'Bizarre' Update on Ketel Marte's No-Show For Diamondbacks Monday Night

 Ketel Marte did not show up at the ballpark Monday night for the Arizona Diamondbacks' game with the Boston Red Sox and was placed on the restricted list by the team minutes before the game. 

But the "bizarre" twist was that Marte was seen at the hotel bar well after the game:
Phoenix insider John Gambadoro reported that "Marte was seen at the team hotel bar with a group of people around 11 pm last night...

"I have covered sports in this market for 30 years- not sure I have seen anything quite as bizarre as this."

Manager Torey Lovullo was emotional in discussing Marte in his post-game comments to the media, but he wasn't able to shed any light whatsoever on the situation. 
It's been a crazy day. All I know is that he's dealing with a personal issue; we're just trying to figure that out. He didn't show up today, and he was put on the restricted list. That's as much as I know right now. I'm sure in time, we'll start to uncover some information. 

I was doing my best to reach out to him, but there was very little coming back.

D-Backs manager & GM have very different comments on Ketel Marte going AWOL

Lovullo went on to say about Marte that he "cares for him and loves him." 

GM Mike Hazen was a little more curt in his response to the second baseman going M.I.A.:

"It's unfortunate he wasn't there tonight," Hazen told the Arizona Republic. "I'll leave it at that."

Yet another update has been revealed on Tuesday afternoon, as Marte is reportedly going back to Arizona to get an MRI on his knee.

Marte is a three-time All-Star, including the previous two seasons, and this year has 21 homers with 67 RBIs and a .760 OPS, which is down about 60 points from his career mark of .817. He is in the middle of a six-year, $116.5 million contract, earning $16 million this season. 

This isn't the first time that he's had some off-the-field issues and has been absent from the team. He was placed on the restricted list last season as well, after his home in Arizona was broken into during the All-Star break and he flew to the Dominican but missed three games without informing the team. 

What happens next after this latest event is very much up in the air at this time, but we'll keep you posted. 

The D-Backs are fighting for a Wild Card berth, and after their 11-1 loss to the Red Sox with no Marte, they are now one game out.
