Blue Jays No. 1 Prospect Has Epic Comment About Making His Major League Debut
The Toronto Blue Jays are giving their No. 1 prospect, Trey Yesavage, the ball on Monday to make his major league debut, with a starting assignment against the Tampa Bay Rays. And upon arriving at Rogers Centre on Sunday, Yesavage immediately let the media know just exactly what he's all about, and why the pressure of performing will not bother him one bit:
Yesavage on the pressure of making his MLB debut:

"There’s not much pressure at all. I’m still playing a children’s game for a living. There’s five-year-olds that play this game. So, for me, at 22, I can deal with it just fine. I’m just having fun every single day I’m here."

Now THAT'S the right attitude. It would be nice if all major leaguers had that mindset.
Yesavage added, "It's insane. I've always dreamed about this, and it's finally come true. It's awesome. ... I was very emotional at first. And then after that, I was almost, like, numb. I didn't know how to feel. It was just a whirlwind of emotions."
It's been a whirlwind of a season as well, as the 2024 first-rounder has made mincemeat of minor league batters, striking out 14.7 per nine innings. He's pitched at four different levels in the minors, starting at Low-A, all the way up to Triple-A Buffalo, where he continued to dominate.
Jays beat writer Zwelling also reports that Buffalo Bisons manager Casey Candaele pulled Trey Yesavage into his office and gave him the option of shutting down for the season or going to the big-leagues.
It really sounds like a rhetorical question, but Yesavage answered anyways: "I thought it would be a better decision to come up here and pitch for the Blue Jays."Schneider: “We think he can help us win. .. If we didn’t think he could help us win — starting tomorrow — it’s a different discussion. We’re not in position to say, ‘Hey, come up, let’s see what you’ve got, and we’ll figure it out.’ We’re expecting him to come up and contribute."

That starts on Monday night.
