Blue Jays Lose Yet Another Pitcher to the Injured List
Toronto Blue Jays' starting pitchers are falling like flies. Chris Bassitt went on the injured list earlier this week with lower back inflammation. Now Jose Berrios has been placed on the IL. Yes, Berrios was actually pitching out of the bullpen as of this week, but it's yet another blow to the Jays' staff.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider says it’s something Berrios has been “dealing with for a while.”
Paxton Schultz is on his way up.
Right elbow inflammation is the culprit sending Berrios to the IL, and he is headed for an MRI to check for any structural damage.
Jays manager John Schneider says it’s something Berrios has been “dealing with for a while,” which could potentially explain why the veteran has been so dreadful of late. The right-hander has a 5.52 ERA over his last seven appearances (six of them starts), and even going back 14 starts, he still sits with an ERA of 5.07.
The decision was made this week to demote him to the bullpen, and he made his first relief appearance Wednesday night, when he surrendered two hits, two walks and three earned runs in 2.0 innings of the Jays' latest loss, 7-1 to the Boston Red Sox.
The Blue Jays have completely squandered their lead atop the American League East Division, from 5.0 games up with 11 to play, now in a tie with the New York Yankees with four games left in the regular season. Their one saving grace is that they hold the tiebreaker over New York.
The Jays' starting rotation is now down to Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, raw rookie Trey Yesavage and Max Scherzer. But Mad Max has a 10.20 ERA in his last four starts.
As for Berrios, this news could mean he will be left off the playoff roster for Toronto's first series—be that the Wild Card Series if they complete their division pennant collapse, or the Division Series.
