MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Destinations for Ketel Marte
Second basemen with a .950 OPS and a couple of MVP-like seasons do not grow on trees, so you can be sure that teams will be knocking the Snakes' door down trying to work out a deal if indeed he is available this offseason.
With that, let's take a look at three top destinations for the three-time All-Star Marte:
Seattle Mariners
The M's have already made a couple of huge moves to improve their offense for the stretch drive, acquiring Josh Naylor (1B) and Eugenio Suarez (3B). But they are both pending free agents, and there's no telling if they'll be back. At second base, they have prospect Cole Young (just turned 22) as the starter, and while he's been okay in his major league debut (.247 with a .683 OPS and good defense), adding Marte would be a massive step up, and depending on what they do with Naylor and Suarez this offseason, could give them one the best infields, offensively at least, in the game.
As Jackson Weber notes in Yard Barker, "Acquiring Marte would come with a significant cost, but there may not be a team more equipped to pull off the move than Seattle, who possess nine top-100 prospects, per MLB.com."
Atlanta Braves
Ozzie Albies has been a huge disappointment this season, one of the reasons for the Braves' unexpected fall from grace in 2025. His power metrics have cratered, with a slugging pct. of .328, and an OPS of .626. His OPS+ is almost 25% below league average, at 77. And while they are expected to pick up his $7 million option for 2026, they are also open to trade offers for him after the season. A move off Albies would open things up for a big acquisition of Marte, a big splash that would completely revitalize and energize the team going into 2026.
However, unlike the Mariners, the Braves' farm system does not have the same type of prospects, with just one in the top 100.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants may have bowed out of the playoff fight for this season, but their acquisition of $300 million man Rafael Devers earlier this year shows they mean business for the future. Even with Devers and Willy Adames locked up long-term for big money, the Giants offense is still nothing to write home about, ranking 26th in MLB in OPS, 25th in runs per game, and 27th in home runs. From the second base position, they're also 25th in OPS.
Adding Marte's dominant offensive profile to go along with Devers and Adames, if they're all clicking on all cylinders, would make San Francisco's offense a beast to reckon with in 2026 and beyond.
