Diamondbacks To Make Huge Decision on Ketel Marte

It's been a disappointing season for the Arizona Diamondbacks on the field, and apparently, according to reports, a rough ride in the clubhouse as well, at least involving All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte. 

Bob Nightengale of USA Today tells us that the D-Backs will take trade offers this summer on the superstar second sacker. 

They will listen to offers on All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte this winter, knowing that while Marte is extremely talented, he can be a diva in the clubhouse, agitating his teammates and coaching staff. His detractors are still angry that he took a day off the final week of last season when they were fighting for their playoff lives. 

Manager Torey Lovullo gave a brutally honest assessment this past week of what it's like managing Marte: 

"It's almost like parenting," he said. "People who say that they treat their kids all the same, they're lying. You try to get the best version of each child and that requires different strategies." 

Marte does have a lengthy injury history, so it's understandable that some "load management" days will be needed now and then. But many around the team think it's more than that. 

Phoenix insider John Gamadoro says the team will make a final call on whether to move on from him come the offseason.

It's a shame, as Marte has been putting up an absolutely dominant performance again this season, and, in fact, over his last 162 games, the numbers are astounding.

A .300 batting average with 47 HR and 116 RBIs, with a .984, over his last 162 games.

This season, he has a .298 average with 23 homers, a .957 OPS and a 162 OPS+. Last year, he was a Top 3 Finalist for MVP, won a Silver Slugger, and earned one of his now three All-Star nods.
