Insider Calls Out Dodgers On Mysterious Mookie Betts Private Meeting
There were all sorts of rumors floating around after Mookie Betts got a private meeting with GM Andrew Friedman and manager Dave Roberts this week. Many felt it was about whether to move the LA Dodgers' everyday shortstop back to the outfield to plug some holes defensively and offensively.
But manager Roberts tried to clear the air once again, saying that their discussion had nothing to do with moving Betts back to right field, per beat writer Fabian Ardaya:
Dave Roberts said Mookie Betts is in his office ‘all the time.' Was the case when he was slumping and he’s wanted to check in with him frequently even though he's swinging it better. Said he has not discussed right field at all with Betts at any point this season.
But with Teoscar Hernandez having his defensive troubles out there, and Michael Conforto being a complete non-factor at the plate, former MLB GM Jim Bowden told MLB Network that he's not buying the company line:
The meeting between Andrew Friedman, Mookie Betts, and Dave Roberts surely had to do with Betts going back to right field, says @JimBowdenGM.

"99%, I can guarantee: That meeting that took place was about Mookie Betts moving back to right field. I can promise you that Andrew Friedman didn't go down there to check on Mookie Betts's swing!
"That front office has been watching the defence of Teo in right field, and they're watching Conforto hitting nothing in left field, and they're sitting there with only a two-game lead (in the NL West)... and going, 'I can't watch this defense anymore.'
"So they can say whatever they want to say, and believe me, I was a GM for 16 1/2 years. I did the same thing: I'm gonna come out and publicly protect everybody, right? Because I don't wanna put the player on the spot...I get all that. But c'mon, we all know what that meeting was, you can spin it anyway you want."
