Breaking: Red Sox Make Big Decision on Aroldis Chapman

Aroldis Chapman throw a pitch for the Boston Red Sox

At the age of 37, Aroldis Chapman is having a renaissance season with the Boston Red Sox. That’s an understatement. With a 1.04 ERA and 26 saves, he’s actually having one of the best years of his career. And despite being engulfed in an intense playoff chase, the Red Sox and Chapman have gotten some off-the-field business done.

According to several reports, Chapman has signed an extension for 2026 worth $13 million with a vesting/mutual option for 2027. He is playing this season on a one-year, $10.75 million deal.

This year, he’s been the main factor in transforming the BoSox bullpen from 24th-ranked in baseball in 2024, to being the best in the American League with a 3.41 ERA.

In addition to his sparkling ERA and 26 saves in 28 chances, he also has a stunning 0.67 WHIP and a 74:14 K:BB ratio over 52 innings.

In 16 MLB seasons, the Red Sox are Chapman’s 7th team, also having suited up with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He has two World Series titles: as the main closer for the Cubs in 2016, and as a set-up man for the Rangers in 2023.

He has 361 career saves -- 13th on the all-time list.
