MLB Rumors: 2 Teams Want To Bring David Robertson Back

Texas Rangers pitcher David Robertson reacts during 2025 game.

Veteran reliever David Robertson is once again attracting interest from both New York clubs as they look to shore up their bullpens for the stretch run.

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the 40-year-old is throwing for multiple teams, with the New York Yankees and New York Mets among those who have "recently looked into" signing him. Several clubs are expected to attend his upcoming sessions in the hopes of finding a reliable late-inning arm.

Robertson's long history with New York makes a reunion logical

Robertson is no stranger to either team. He pitched parts of nine seasons with the Yankees across two stints and was a key figure in the Mets' 2023 bullpen before being traded to the Miami Marlins. Though his closing stint with the Texas Rangers last year was rocky, blowing eight saves in ten chances, his overall numbers were still solid: a 3.00 ERA, 99 strikeouts over 72 innings, and a steady 93+ mph cutter.

Experience, affordability, and postseason pedigree appeal to contenders

Both the Mets and Yankees need help in the bullpen.

The Yankees' relief corps has struggled with a 4.08 ERA, while the Mets are seeking another high-leverage option behind Edwin Díaz. Robertson’s playoff résumé and ability to pitch late in games without the cost of giving up prospects make him an ideal low-risk, high-upside signing for contenders chasing October.
