TRADE: Royals Acquire Former All-Star Infielder From Pirates

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Adam Frazier throws the ball during 2025 game.

With second base production sinking and the playoff push heating up, the Kansas City Royals are turning to a familiar face.

According to multiple reports, the Pittsburgh Pirates have traded veteran utility man Adam Frazier to Kansas City in exchange for minor-league infielder Cam Devanney. This move gives the Royals much-needed stability at a position that’s been among the league’s worst offensively.

Frazier Brings Leadership, Experience, and Contact Bat

Frazier, 33, returns to Kansas City after a solid stint with the team in 2024. While his numbers this year (.255/.318/.336 in 262 plate appearances) won’t turn heads, they’re a significant upgrade over Michael Massey’s brutal .202/.221/.258 line.

His .310 average with runners on base makes him especially valuable in late-game, situational at-bats, a role Kansas City feels he’s ideal for down the stretch.

Pirates Clear Space, Add Minor-League Power Bat

For the Pirates, this trade opens up playing time for younger infielders like Nick Gonzales while bringing in the slugging Devanney, a 28-year-old Triple-A infielder who’s hit .272 with 18 homers and a .931 OPS this season.
