Duran’s Stock Still Strong Despite Regression
Duran hasn't quite replicated his breakout 2024 campaign, where he finished eighth in AL MVP voting, but his elite speed, league-leading 10 triples, and team-friendly contract still make him highly valuable. He’s batting .255 with a .728 OPS this year, down from last season’s .834 mark.
His defensive play has regressed at times, but scouts still believe in his upside. More notably, Duran was held out of Monday’s lineup against the Colorado Rockies and southpaw Austin Gomber, fueling speculation that the Red Sox are protecting his trade value.

Padres Among Top Suitors for Duran
The San Diego Padres are making it known they want a righty-hitting outfielder and a catcher, and Duran fits that mold. Bob Nightengale reports San Diego sees Duran as an ideal target and is willing to move prospects.
The Red Sox, who are flush with outfield depth thanks to Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and the expected return of Masataka Yoshida, could use the opportunity to bolster other areas. Catching prospect Ethan Salas and pitchers Kash Mayfield or Humberto Cruz would be valuable adds in a Duran deal, especially as Boston eyes bullpen and infield depth heading into the stretch run.
