MLB Trade Rumors: 7 Suitors, But One Team is Runaway Favorite For Eugenio Suarez
Just four weeks to go until the MLB trade deadline. The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to find themselves in a precarious position, in fourth place in the NL West, and four games back of the final Wild Card spot.
Their third baseman, Eugenio Suarez, as a pending free agent, is having himself one heckuva contract year with 26 HR and a major league best 69 RBIs already at the halfway point of the season. And according to MLB insider Jon Morosi, he has become one of the hottest names on the market.

"Suarez is one of the names we're hearing about most in the industry... There is only one man in the NL with more home runs this season than Suarez, and that's Shohei Ohtani," says Morosi.
"There is some uncertainty about whether he'll be available... The D-Backs are facing the very difficult calculation of do you go for it when you have three quality teams above you, or do you take a look at Suarez and realize he is the best power hitter in the game on an expiring contract?"
If they do decide to trade him, there is one team that's far and away the most sensible landing spot him, and that's the Seattle Mariners.
Seattle Mariners are the best landing spot for Eugenio Suarez
The Mariners, per Morosi, are "the one team that I think is a clear fit, an abundantly obvious fit."
Suarez was a Mariner before, as he launched 53 homers in two seasons there in 2022 and '23. They could plug a big hole at third by reacquiring the slugger, as they try to hang on to the 3rd and final Wild Card spot in the AL.
Fellow insider Jeff Passan lists 7 other teams that could be in the mix as well:
- Detroit Tigers
- Milwaukee Brewers
- Chicago Cubs
- New York Yankees
- Kansas City Royals
- San Francisco Giants
