MLB Trade Rumors: Cubs Linked to Crosstown White Sox in Trade for Pitcher

The Chicago Cubs are looking under every rock, searching high and low for a legit starting pitcher to add to their rotation at this week's trade deadline. And they don't have to look far for one of their targets: The Cubbies have their eye on the Chicago White Sox's Adrian Houser.

The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney says Houser has certainly boosted his trade stock this season, and a move to the North Side could be in order.

Though crosstown deals with the Chicago White Sox are exceedingly rare, the Cubs have a lot of background information on Houser, who has suddenly re-emerged to become the new ace on the South Side. The trade market also appears to be heating up.

The Cubs got a close-up look at what all the Houser buzz is about, as he continued his unexpected breakout run this season on Friday night against them, tossing six scoreless innings before giving up a meaningless three-run homer in the seventh with Houser and the ChiSox already up on the Cubs 11-0.

On the year, Houser is 6-2 for the hapless Pale Hose, with a 2.10 ERA in 11 starts.

The 32-year-old opted out of his minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers in the middle of May, then signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the White Sox, with both sides knowing full well that if he pitched well, he'd be a prime trade candidate come late July.

And here we are.
