Breaking MLB Trade: Yankees Swing Deal for Another Infielder

Just one day after acquiring third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies, the New York Yankees have gone out and added another infielder to the mix, swinging a trade with the Washington Nationals for former New York Mets shortstop, veteran Amed Rosario.

The Yankees were looking for a right-handed bat for the infield (in an otherwise left-handed hitting dominant lineup), and found one in Rosario, who this year against lefties is batting .299 with an .816 OPS. Those numbers are pretty similar to his career marks vs. southpaws, in which he has a .298 average with a .799 OPS, and a .462 slugging pct.

On the 2025 season, Rosario is batting .270 in 158 plate appearances, with an OPS+ of 109.

In the field, Rosario will likely play third in a platoon with McMahon, and he can also play second and shortstop. In fact, he has played a number of games at every single position on the diamond except catcher and first base across his 12-year career.

Five years ago, Rosario had one of the highlights of his career at Yankee Stadium, hitting a walk-off two-run homer for the Mets.

And yup — it was against a southpaw.
