MLB Rumors: Mets Receiving Plenty Of Trade Interest in Starling Marte

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte runs during 2025 game.

With less than a week remaining before the MLB trade deadline, New York Post reporter Mike Puma has confirmed that multiple teams are inquiring about the availability of New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte

The 36-year-old veteran outfielder and designated hitter is in the final year of his four-year, $78 million contract, and rival clubs reportedly view him as a low-cost option for bench and platoon depth.

Marte is having a strong season at the plate, slashing .275/.356/.395 with four home runs, 20 RBIs, and five stolen bases across 59 games. He recently returned from the injured list after missing two weeks with a bruised right knee, and his value is bolstered by his even splits against left and right-handed pitching.

Will the Mets Actually Move Marte?

The New York Mets currently lead the NL East and recently added Gregory Soto, signaling a buyer’s mentality at the deadline. That makes it unlikely they’d part ways with Marte unless he were part of a larger deal that improved the roster for the stretch run.

Marte, who was a key All-Star for the Mets in 2022, has spent most of the 2025 season in a designated hitter platoon role but remains an admired veteran presence in the clubhouse. His contract, however, is pricey for a part-time player, which could influence the Mets’ decision-making.

Balancing Depth and Opportunity

With Jesse Winker, Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, and Jeff McNeil all competing for at-bats, the Mets have a logjam at DH and corner outfield spots. Trading Marte could alleviate that roster crunch and help the team address other needs, but the front office must take into account his leadership and current production.
