MLB Rumors: One Team Reveals They Are Definitely Sellers At Trade Deadline

MLB official baseball.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly embraced their role as sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline, with rival executives confirming to USA Today's Bob Nightengale that the club is actively making key veterans available.

With a 47-50 record and a roster battered by injuries, Arizona is now fielding offers for third baseman Eugenio Suarez, first baseman Josh Naylor, and starting pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, all pending free agents.

Suarez, Gallen, and Naylor drawing strong interest

Suarez has been one of the most productive power bats in baseball, slugging 31 homers and leading the league with 78 RBIs. He’s drawing interest from multiple contenders, including the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, and New York Mets, all in need of a third baseman or designated hitter.

Naylor, meanwhile, has been a model of consistency with a .295 average, 11 home runs, and a 128 OPS+, while striking out just 46 times in 364 plate appearances, making him another coveted trade target.

Though Gallen’s value is slightly diminished due to a rough 2025 season (5.40 ERA), he remains a pitcher with a strong track record and playoff experience. Kelly, posting a 3.41 ERA and 2.8 WAR, offers veteran reliability and postseason credentials, and could command serious interest given the shortage of quality arms on the market. The Toronto Blue Jays have been linked to Gallen, while Kelly’s steady production makes him attractive to nearly any contender.

Arizona seeks young pitching as rebuild begins

General manager Mike Hazen hasn't publicly committed to a full-scale selloff, but the writing is on the wall. With Corbin Burnes and several bullpen arms sidelined by Tommy John surgery, the Diamondbacks are targeting young, controllable pitching in return for their expiring contracts.

They’re unlikely to trade all five key veterans, but moving two or three seems almost certain.
