Breaking MLB Trade: In Surprise Move, Angels Acquire 2 Pitchers From Nationals

If you had the Los Angeles Angels as a 'buyer' on your bingo card, you win. In a surprise move, the Angels have swung a trade with the Washington Nationals to acquire two relief pitchers, as they are apparently trying to make a move to get to the playoffs.

The Angels receive LHP Andrew Chafin and RHP Luis Garcia from the Nats in exchange for Jake Eder and outfield prospect Sam Brown.

The Angels have a 4.9% chance of making the playoffs at this point, but they are on a three-game win streak, and look like they're pushing their chips in.

Chafin is 35, with a 2.70 ERA this season in 20 innings with Washington. The lefty is pretty much a staple to be traded at the deadline... This is his 4th time in the last five seasons being moved in late July. He has a career 3.39 ERA and will be a free agent after the season.

Garcia is 38, and is also a two-month rental. He has a 4.10 ERA this season, split between the LA Dodgers and the Nats. He'll now join his third team for 2025.

The Angels are currently 53-55, 4.0 games back of a Wild Card spot — but they are going for it.
