Top Free Agent JD Martinez Finally Gets An Offer

JD Martinez given non-guaranteed offer

Many continue to wonder why six-time All-Star (as recently as 2023) JD Martinez was still sitting at home without a job as the baseball season is at the halfway mark.

He hasn't retired, and he still hasn't given up on the game. He's apparently just been waiting for the right offer. According to insider Jon Heyman in the New York Post, he's now been given a contract offer by the struggling Texas Rangers, who are desperate to stay in the playoff hunt.

But it was "non-guaranteed", which clearly isn't the aforementioned "right offer."

Heyman says Martinez will continue to work out in Miami until a team comes to him with a legit proposal.

The Rangers are dead last in baseball at the DH spot when it comes to batting average and OPS, and third-last in homers. He could certainly help.

After a successful comeback season in 2023 for the now 37-year-old Martinez,  the Los Angeles Dodgers decided not to extend the $20.325M qualifying offer, despite his 33 HR, 103 RBI season. The Mets signed him in 2024 for $12 million, and his numbers took a significant dive, down to 16 HR and 69 RBIs. But in two of the previous four seasons, he's had elite batting numbers, and was an All-Star in three of those years.

JD Martinez's DH bat remains available to any team ready to make a serious offer. Sportrac calculates his value at $9.5 million.
