MLB Trade Rumors: Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn Linked to 4 Teams As Trade Fits
The Baltimore Orioles continue to bring up the rear in the American League East division, and with a 34–46 record, are also well back in the Wild Card chase in the AL. It's still more likely than not that they will be sellers as we approach the trade deadline in about a month's time.
One of their most likely to be traded pieces is first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn. As noted by insider Jeff Passan, he is "having an out-of-nowhere career year, hitting over .300 (and with the underlying metrics to support that) along with being on pace for a career high in homers."
Passan gives him an 85% chance of being traded by the deadline.
With a .301 average, 11 homers and an .869 OPS, O'Hearn is batting 50 points above his career mark, and is OPSing over 100 points better than his eight-season mark.
How many teams will buy in that this is for real for O'Hearn in 2025? According to Passan, there are four clubs that should be taking a look, as they'd be a great trade fit for the O's:
- Seattle Mariners
- Boston Red Sox
- San Francisco Giants
- Texas Rangers
All of these teams could use an upgrade at first base, and as a bonus, O'Hearn could also fill in in the outfield if needed.
The Red Sox have the most glaring problem at first, having lost Triston Casas for the season. They still haven't found a replacement.
The Mariners have struggled at the position for years, and are currently going with Luke Raley and his .229 average and three homers.
The Giants are dead last in OPS and batting average from their first base position this season, and while they're working out newly-acquired Rafael Devers at the bag, there's no guarantee he'll be able to pull it off, and having O'Hearn would be a great fallback. He could platoon in the outfield when and if Devers is at first.
