MLB Trade Rumors: Tigers Ready To Go All-In On One Player At Deadline
According to multiple reports, Detroit is expected to be “all in again” on Alex Bregman if the Boston Red Sox choose to sell at the 2025 MLB trade deadline.
The Tigers offered Bregman a six-year, $171.5 million deal this past winter, but he opted for a shorter, opt-out-heavy contract with Boston. Now, as the AL Central leaders look to fortify a playoff-bound roster, they’re circling back in hopes of finally landing the star they’ve long coveted.

Detroit’s Deadline Plans Hinge on Bregman’s Status
The Tigers have patched together the hot corner with a mix of Zach McKinstry, Andy Ibáñez, and rookie Jace Jung, but Bregman would be a massive upgrade. Before hitting the IL in late May with a quad strain, he was posting elite numbers: a .299 average, 11 home runs, and a 159 OPS+ in just 51 games.
Detroit, tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for MLB’s best record, believes adding Bregman could be the move that takes them from contenders to World Series favorites. The Red Sox’s internal debate: buy, sell, or split the difference, could decide whether Bregman is even made available.

Tigers Have the Assets - But Will They Risk a Rental?
While insider Jeff Passan only gives Bregman a 10% chance of being moved, Detroit’s farm system depth gives them an edge over rivals like the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and Mets.
The major caveat? Bregman can opt out after this season. That could make teams hesitant to pay a steep price for what might be a short stay. But with ace Tarik Skubal only under control through 2026, the Tigers know their championship window is now.
