MLB Trade Rumors: 4 Potential Trade Destinations for Cedric Mullins

The Baltimore Orioles continue to struggle at the bottom of the American League East Divison, and must be getting close to throwing in the towel for this season. One of their top trade candidates is pending free agent Cedric Mullins.

He's not quite the same player he was as an All-Star in 2021, but the 30-year-old is displaying some nice power this season, with 12 homers at the midway point. His power/speed combo and plus-defense in the outfield should be an attractive trade piece at the deadline.

Let's have a look at four teams that would be good fits for a Mullins trade.

Houston Astros

According to Bob Nightengale in USA Today, "The Houston Astros are aggressively looking for a left-handed bat on the market, with eyes on Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins."

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phils are dead last in all of baseball in home runs from their centerfielders this season, with just two. Between Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas, they are simply not getting a lot of production out of the position. Mullins, despite his .210 average, would be an upgrade with his power and speed.

New York Mets

Jeff McNeil and Tyrone Taylor are nothing to write home about in CF for the Mets, and Mullins would be a nice fit for them as well.

Cleveland Guardians

Lane Thomas is having a disastrous year in center, batting .171 with a .512 OPS. Youngster Angel Martinez, who recently had to move to 2B, wasn't doing too much better in the outfield before that. Overall, the Guards are dead last in OPS in centerfield, at .516. Mullins would look awfully nice for them, too, if they're hoping to stay in the Wild Card chase (currently 2.0 games back heading into Sunday's games).
