MLB Trade Rumors: Trade Talks Picking Up One Blue Jays Player

As the Toronto Blue Jays teeter on the edge of contention, trade chatter is heating up around one of their most valuable assets—Daulton Varsho.

With the team hovering around .500 and the outfield market projected to be razor-thin at this year’s deadline, rival executives are circling. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Jays are already “receiving quite a few calls” about the elite defensive outfielder, who isn’t a free agent until after the 2026 season.

Varsho’s Value Soars in Thin Outfield Market

Varsho, a Gold Glove winner in 2024, is back in action after an early-season injury and hasn’t missed a beat. He’s flashing the same elite glove that made him a fan favorite last year while showing flashes of power at the plate.

His $8.6 million salary and two more years of control make him especially appealing to contenders looking for a game-changing defender in center or left field. "If the Jays made Varsho available," Olney noted, "they’d likely receive a ton of interest in what could be a thin outfield market."

Could Toronto Actually Move Varsho?

Moving Varsho would be no small signal—it could mark the beginning of a broader teardown. If Toronto becomes sellers, the front office might consider moving not just Varsho, but also veterans like Chris Bassitt, George Springer, or even Max Scherzer.

The front office faces a critical fork in the road: hold onto key pieces and fight for a postseason spot, or sell high and retool for the future. Either way, Varsho is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing names on the trade market this summer.
