MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers & Red Sox Linked To Blockbuster Deal
Less than five years after landing Mookie Betts in a deal that still haunts Boston fans, L.A. is now being linked to none other than Rafael Devers—Boston’s slugging third baseman who suddenly finds himself surrounded by trade speculation once again.
Devers Drama Could Open Door for Blockbuster
Tension between Devers and Boston’s front office has bubbled to the surface this season. After being shifted from third base to designated hitter due to the Alex Bregman signing, Devers reportedly balked at management’s request to play first base in the wake of Triston Casas’ injury. That response added fuel to trade rumors, with insiders questioning whether Boston might look to move its star instead of navigating another long-term rift.

According to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, the Dodgers make sense as a landing spot—at least on paper. With Max Muncy struggling and entering his mid-30s, third base could soon become a long-term concern in L.A. “If you think that’s going to slow them down, though, you must be new here,” Miller wrote, referencing the Dodgers' staggering payroll and relentless pursuit of elite talent. “The difference between 11 players making nearly $225 million and 12 players making about $255 million is practically a pittance to them.”
Could Boston Really Send Devers to L.A.?
The optics are rough. Trading another franchise cornerstone to a loaded Dodgers team—where Devers would join former teammate Mookie Betts—would likely spark outrage in Boston. But with the Red Sox reportedly eyeing a push to keep Bregman long term and top prospect Marcelo Mayer looming, moving Devers may be more realistic than fans want to believe.

Proposed trade packages include top Dodgers prospects like Josue De Paula, River Ryan, Alex Freeland, and Hyun-Seok Jang. If Boston feels the Devers situation is spiraling, the Dodgers have the elite prospect capital and financial flexibility to make the deal work.
While nothing is imminent, the whispers are growing louder. And if Boston’s front office sees more long-term value in cutting ties with Devers than managing clubhouse tensions, a shocking Red Sox-Dodgers sequel could be just around the corner.
