MLB Trade Rumors: New Destination Cited for Luis Robert Jr. with Proposed Trade

Luis Robert Jr. has been on the trade block since last season. The Chicago White Sox are in a tear-it-down to the studs rebuild, and Robert is their top remaining trade piece. Most observers around the game are surprised he wasn't dealt during the offseason.

But Robert got off to a dreadful start to the 2025 season as he was batting just .138 two weeks ago. Since then, he has 11 hits in his past 10 games, has raised his average to .188 and his OPS by 150 points to .646, while also hitting 3 homers with 9 RBIs over that stretch. And he is now leading the majors in stolen bases with 15.  Trade talks should heat back up.

And while several trade fits have been named for Robert Jr. thus far, including a couple of top contenders in the National League, we now get a proposal of another ideal landing spot, as suggested by former MLB GM Jim Bowden, writing in The Athletic.

Texas Rangers should trade for Luis Robert Jr.

Bowden would like to see the Texas Rangers swing a deal for Robert, in the following trade:

Texas Rangers receive:

  • Luis Robert Jr.

Chicago White Sox receive:

  • CF Dylan Dreiling
  • LHP Kohl Drake

The Rangers' offense has been awful so far this season, as they rank 29th—second worst in baseball—with just 113 runs. They're 27th in OPS and 25th in batting average. If Robert Jr. can even get close to his peak form (and health) from 2023, when he blasted 38 homers with 80 RBIs for an .857 OPS, he will be a massive boost to the Texas lineup.

The Rangers are struggling at 17-18, but just 3.5 games back of top spot in a wide-open for the taking AL West.

Dreiling and Drake are both Top-10ish prospects for the Rangers, and would offer a nice return for Chicago. Dreiling, an outfielder who can play all three spots, is a left-handed power hitter currently in High-A. Bowden says he profiles as a 25-home run hitter.

Drake is a southpaw who is pitching in AA this year and has struck out an astounding 28 batters in 16 innings for a 15.4 K/9.
