Oakland Athletics Sign Catcher

The Oakland Athletics have added to their catching depth by signing Carlos Perez to a minor league contract.

Perhaps it is not all that surprising to see the Athletics add another catcher to their group, as Manny Pina is currently suffering from a wrist issue. As a result, Perez will now provide them with another potential call-up option if Pina's injury sidelines him.

Perez has not appeared in the majors since the 2018 season, where he split time between the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers. In 212 career MLB games, Perez has 11 home runs, 58 RBIs, and a .215 batting average. Now, he will be hoping for the chance to improve upon these career stats with the A's in 2023.

Perez is coming off of an excellent season that saw him hit 32 home runs in 117 games with Triple-A Albuquerque. We will now need to wait and see if this kind of power can translate over to the A's organization this season.
