New York Mets Rumors: Pirates Closer On Team's Radar

The New York Mets are looking for a new closer, as Edwin Diaz suffered a season-ending injury during the World Baseball Classic. As a result, the Mets are browsing the trade market, and they are reportedly very interested in acquiring David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Bednar is coming off of a career season that saw him make his first All-Star Game in the process. In 45 appearances for the Pirates, he had a 3-4 record to go along with a 2.61 ERA and 19 saves. After a season like this, it makes sense that the Mets are interested in acquiring him from the Pirates.

Bednar would give the Mets another option at closer for the season, so it is surely an avenue worth some consideration. On paper, there appears to be an excellent fit here, but it would also cost the Mets a good amount to land him. Alas, we will now need to wait and see if a move comes to fruition between the two National League teams from here.
