MLB Rumors: Yuli Gurriel to Miami Marlins Heating Up

For much of the offseason, the Miami Marlins were heavily linked to Yuli Gurriel. Yet, at the time of this writing, Gurriel is still a free agent. However, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, Gurriel and the Marlins are still having talks about a potential deal.

Rosenthal noted that Gurriel would likely need to settle for a minor-league contract if anything is finalized, however. This is easy to understand, as spring training is now underway. However, when noting that the Marlins could use more infield depth, this is an avenue worth exploring for both the team and the player.

Gurriel is coming off of a down season with the Houston Astros, where he had eight home runs, 53 RBIs, and a .242 batting average. Yet, when looking at his past success, he certainly could be a strong addition to a Marlins team looking to be more competitive in 2023. Alas, we will need to wait and see if these continued talks lead to a deal from here.
