MLB Rumors: Best Free Agent Fit For Luke Voit

Luke Voit has yet to find a free agent home. He's fallen out of favor around the majors, seemingly because of his plummeting batting average over the past few years. But Voit's OPS+ numbers still peg him as an above-average hitter, and he can certainly add some power to any lineup.

He still sports a career OPS of .818 and an OPS+ of 124 (24% better than average). Surely teams can't still be relying on batting average to determine a hitter's worth, can they? Voit blasted 22 home runs with 69 RBIs split between the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals last season. As recently as 2020, Voit led the majors in home runs (22 in the shortened 60-game season).

Let's find a home for DH/1B Luke Voit: How about the Milwaukee Brewers?

There are a number of reasons Voit's bat could fit in Milwaukee:

  • American Family Field is a homer-friendly park, and should serve Voit well (he's batted .303 in his seven career games there, small sample size as it is).
  • A platoon at first base with the left-handed hitting Rowdy Telez seems like a perfect fit, or they could slot him in at DH
  • The Brewers need more offense, particularly after they lost Hunter Renfroe's 29 dingers from last year
As noted by MLB Insider Robert Murray, "his bat feels like it would fit really well in Milwaukee... The Brewers could certainly use some pop in that lineup. Luke Voit on a cheap, one-year contract makes so much sense."
