San Diego Padres Sign First Baseman

The San Diego Padres add to their depth.

The Padres have signed first baseman Pedro Castellanos to a minor league contract.

Castellanos has spent the last seven years in the Boston Red Sox' minor-league system and slashed a solid .274/.305/.735 line, with 13 home runs, 71 RBIs, one stolen base and 54 runs scored over 467 at-bats between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester last season.

The twenty-five-year-old has yet to make his major league debut, but has accumulated a strong career .294/.342/.774 triple-slash line, with 41 home runs, 298 RBIs, 16 stolen bases and 276 runs scored over 2,013 at-bats.

Castellanos will provide the Padres with added infield depth in the upper minors. It's a very intriguing signing by the organization and it should be interesting to see how he develops.
